Wildfire risk heightened - enjoy the weather safely
Following the Met Office issuing a warning of a heightened wildfire risk for the remainder of the week, we are urging people to enjoy the weather and countryside safely and responsibly

Most wildfires in the UK are caused by human activity so, with temperatures rising, dry conditions forecast, and school holidays around the corner, it is important that you take extra care to protect our beautiful Cumbrian landscape.
You can take a number of small but meaningful steps to help do your bit:
- Having campfires and barbecues in designated areas and ensuring they are extinguished fully
- Taking your litter home with you or disposing of it responsibly
- Disposing of cigarettes safely
- Reconsidering any prescribed burning activities due to current conditions
If you see a fire outdoors, remember:
- Move to a place of safety and report it by calling 999
- Do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself
- Give as much information as you can including the size of the fire, location, and terrain
- Always follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities
With the UK climate becoming more extreme, hotter and drier weather can increase the likelihood and intensity of outdoor fires.
