Fire Service Watch Manager - Preparedness Department
Location: Flexible working arrangements are available to support the individual and requirements of the role.

Job Type: Full-Time, temporary for 6 months. Job sharing will be considered if required.
Eligibility: INTERNAL ONLY. This role is open to all internal operational staff, from Firefighter to Watch Manager, who currently hold an in date ICL1 qualification.

About Preparedness:
The preparedness department of CFRS operates under the framework of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, which outlines the responsibilities of local responders to ensure effective emergency preparedness, response and recovery.
Some key aspects of the work that the preparedness department do:
- Emergency Planning: Assisting with the development and maintenance of comprehensive emergency plans, that detail the procedures and resources required to respond to various types of incidents.
- Training and Exercises: Training sessions are organised guarantee that all personnel are adequately prepared for operational response. This encompasses joint muti-agency exercises with various emergency services and associated organisations from all responding categories.
- Public Information and Warning: Work closely with the LRF to ensure that informing and warning the public about potential risks and the actions they should take in an emergency.
- Cooperation and Coordination: We work closely with other local responders, such as police, ambulance services, and local authorities, to ensure a coordinated response. This is facilitated through Local Resilience Forums (LRFs), which bring together various agencies to plan and prepare for emergencies.
- Business Continuity Management: The preparedness department also works internally to ensure that CFRS meets the requirements for both organisational and response Business Continuity arrangements.
These responsibilities ensure that CFRS is well-prepared to protect the community and respond effectively to emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development and implementation of comprehensive preparedness plans and training programs in collaboration with external partners such as Sellafield Ltd.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and plan drills to ensure operational readiness.
- Working in collaboration with our Local Resilience Forum (LRF) Partners to ensure the safety of the communities of Cumbria.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to preparedness activities.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a fire service role.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong organisational skills.
